In North-West Brussels, this old farming commune, which was a part of Jette for years, is a peaceful residential area.
Ancient farms still lie at the foot of avenue Charles-Quint/Keizer Karellaan, expressway to the coast.

At the border of the neighbouring commune's Parc Baudouin/Boudewijnpark lie the marsh of Ganshoren, a natural reserve rich in birdlife and, near to it, the castle of Rivieren.
In the front of the Basilica (Basilique de Koekelberg/Basiliek van Koekelberg), the Parc Elisabeth / Elisabethpark covers a surface area of 21 ha, of which 9 are on the territory of Ganshoren. This park, one of Leopold II's creations, has a long public walkway with a children's playground.
Close to the downtown area, yet still relatively rural, Ganshoren goes on leading quietly its double life.
The commune of Ganshoren covers 2.5 km2. It has a population of 21,743, or a population density of 8,856 inhabitants per km2 (as at 1st January 2008).
