Soil pollution

The management and remediation of polluted soil is part of the Region’s socio-economic reality. The identification and treatment of polluted soil in the Region are regulated by the 2009 order of the Brussels Government.

The 2009 order lays down the following declaration obligations:

  • Notification, at the earliest opportunity, to the real rights holder and the user of the site, of any discovery of soil pollution (...) ;
  • Declaration of any event likely to cause imminent soil pollution, at the earliest opportunity, to Bruxelles Environnement - IBGE (...).

The two decisions executing the order for the management and remediation of polluted soil were published in July 2010.
