Noise pollution

Building sites, companies holding environmental permits, traffic – the coexistence of housing, trade and industry in the Brussels-Capital Region’s mixed zones has an impact on quality of life in terms of noise.

Your business can help limit the overall level of noise by introducing a number of adapted measures.

Check the maximum authorised noise levels for business premises (FR/NL)External link with Bruxelles Environnement. These levels vary depending on the type of day (weekday, weekend, public holiday), the time of day and the location according to the Regional Designated Land Use Plan (industrial zone, residential zone, public interest zone, green zone).

Best practice with regard to road traffic noise

To develop a preventive approach and expertise on the issue of road noise, Bruxelles Environnement has published Vademecum du bruit routier, a guide in French to best practice for decision-makers, stakeholders and businesses, addressing the main noise issues involved in road and traffic management. Copies are available at 50 euros each from Bruxelles Environnement
